Preparation Guide for the Driver Position (Transportation – 5‑10 Years Experience)

1. Understand the Core Duties
- Prioritize passengers – students, teachers or officials – according to the schedule that is given in advance.
- Follow the vehicle schedule faithfully; know the itinerary before starting each trip.
- Drive safely, obey traffic rules, never smoke or consume any drug while operating the vehicle.
- Treat passengers with respect at all times; any misconduct can lead to dismissal or financial penalty.
- Do not transport external passengers or cargo for hire; any violation may result in severe disciplinary action.
- The vehicle may be requisitioned at any moment by the authority – be ready to comply without objection.
- Never use the vehicle without written permission from the officer in charge of its requisition.

2. Route Planning & Road Conditions
- Check the condition of the roads daily and select the safest, most efficient route.
- Keep a notebook or a digital map with alternate routes in case of traffic jams, construction or weather‑related problems.

3. Vehicle Knowledge & Maintenance
- Be familiar with all small parts of the car: brakes, clutch, steering, suspension, battery, lights, wipers, tire types, valve caps, spare wheel, etc.
- Perform a pre‑shift check every day: engine oil level and quality, coolant level, brake fluid, tire pressure, tire tread, wheel nuts, lights (both interior and exterior), and battery terminals.
- Test the functionality of brakes and clutch before each long‑distance trip.
- If any fault is detected, report it immediately to the senior officer and assist in arranging repairs according to university policy.

4. Daily Documentation
- Keep the following documents with the vehicle at all times:
1. Valid driving licence
2. Vehicle registration certificate (বøু‑বুক)
3. Tax token (ট্যাক্স টোকেন)
4. Insurance certificate
5. Fitness certificate (ফিটনেস সার্টিফিকেট)
- Maintain a log book for every journey: date, purpose, distance travelled, fuel consumed, oil changes, mileage reading, and passenger signatures.
- Submit the completed log book daily/weekly/monthly to the officer in charge.

5. Parking & Handover Procedures
- Park the vehicle only in the designated university parking area, keeping it clean and orderly.
- At the end of the shift, hand over the keys and a brief status report to the responsible officer or security personnel.

6. Financial & Administrative Tasks
- Record all expenses (fuel, oil, spare parts, repairs) and calculate the monthly kilometer total.
- Provide the officer with a summary of maintenance costs and mileage for budgeting purposes.
- Inform the officer timely about insurance renewal dates and registration renewal fees; assist in completing the necessary paperwork.
- Help the officer in procuring spare parts, ensuring that parts meet the university’s specifications and are sourced from approved vendors.

7. Emergency & Long‑Term Availability
- Be prepared to drive for extended periods during emergencies or when the university calls for additional support.
- Be willing to operate other university vehicles (private cars, AC/non‑AC buses) as required.

8. Accountability & Liability
- Understand that any damage to the vehicle while it is under your control will be investigated, and you may be held financially responsible.
- Always practice defensive driving to minimize the risk of accidents or wear and tear.

9. Personal Conduct & Professionalism
- Maintain a clean personal appearance and professional demeanor.
- Refrain from any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior toward passengers or colleagues.
- Keep communication clear and polite; confirm pick‑up and drop‑off points with passengers when necessary.

10. Preparation Before the Interview

*Knowledge Review*
- Review the local traffic laws, especially recent amendments related to commercial and institutional vehicles.
- Study the university’s transport policy (if publicly available) and be ready to discuss how you will comply.

*Practical Demonstration*
- Be prepared for a driving test that may include: vehicle inspection, basic maintenance questions, route planning, and a short on‑road assessment.

*Documentation*
- Bring original and photocopies of your driving licence, vehicle registration (if you own a personal vehicle), insurance, tax token, and any professional driver certifications.

*Experience Presentation*
- Prepare a concise summary of your 5‑10 years of experience: types of vehicles driven, number of passengers transported daily, routine maintenance tasks performed, and any cost‑saving initiatives you introduced.

*Behavioral Answers*
- Think of examples where you handled a difficult passenger, dealt with an unexpected vehicle breakdown, or coordinated with senior officials during an emergency.

*Physical & Health Checks*
- Confirm that you meet any medical fitness standards required for professional drivers (vision, hearing, overall health).

11. Continuous Improvement
- Enroll in a defensive‑driving course or a short vehicle‑maintenance workshop every year to stay updated.
- Keep a personal notebook of recurring issues you notice on the university vehicle; suggest preventive measures to the officer in charge.

By mastering these areas—route planning, strict adherence to schedules, thorough vehicle checks, accurate record‑keeping, and professional conduct—you will be well prepared to meet the expectations of the driver role and to succeed in the interview process. Good luck!
