PREPARATION GUIDE FOR THE POSITION
JUNIOR EXECUTIVE – TAX, VAT & COMPANY AFFAIRS
BUILDING TECHNOLOGY & IDEAS LTD. (BTI) – DHAKA

1. KNOW THE ROLE INSIDE‑OUT
• Review every duty listed in the job description. Be ready to explain how you have performed each task in previous roles:
– Annual financial‑statement preparation and coordination with external auditors.
– Maintenance of Mushok registers (6.1, 6.2, 6.3).
– Systematic filing of VAT, tax‑audit and financial documents (both paper and digital).
– Monthly VAT return preparation and filing.
– Withholding‑tax return preparation, deduction and deposit.
– Preparing support for VAT surveillance audits.
– Visiting tax, VAT and related government offices.
• Identify gaps in your experience and create a short plan to up‑skill (e.g., online VAT courses, reading the latest NBR circulars).

2. RESEARCH BTI AND THE REAL‑ESTATE SECTOR
• Study BTI’s history (established 1984, founder member of REHAB, first ISO‑certified design & construction firm in Bangladesh).
• Understand BTI’s core business: real‑estate development, building design, construction, and property management.
• Familiarise yourself with recent projects, market positioning, and any news about BTI’s tax or regulatory compliance initiatives.
• Know the key regulatory bodies: National Board of Revenue (NBR), VAT Authority, Tax Office, and any sector‑specific regulations for real‑estate developers.

3. SHARPEN TAX & VAT KNOWLEDGE
• Review Bangladesh VAT law (VAT Act 1991, amendments) – filing frequencies, taxable supplies, exempt supplies, input tax credit rules.
• Study withholding‑tax provisions for payments to contractors, consultants, and service providers.
• Practice preparing a mock VAT return (VAT‑01) and a withholding‑tax return (TAX‑03/04) using sample data.
• Read up on common audit triggers for developers and how to prepare surveillance‑audit documentation.

4. MUSHOK REGISTER COMPREHENSION
• Locate official guidance on Mushok registers 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3.
• Understand the type of transactions each register records (e.g., purchases, sales, expenses).
• Prepare a one‑page cheat‑sheet showing the required fields, filing frequency, and reconciliation steps.

5. EXCEL EXPERTISE – BE “VAST”
• Master advanced functions: VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP, INDEX‑MATCH, IF, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS.
• Build pivot tables for tax‑reporting data, and use slicers for quick filtering.
• Create dynamic dashboards to track VAT payable/receivable, withholding‑tax liabilities, and audit‑document status.
• Learn Power Query for data cleaning and consolidation from multiple source files.
• Practice data validation, conditional formatting, and protecting worksheets to mimic a real‑world filing system.

6. ORGANISATION OF PHYSICAL & DIGITAL FILES
• Design a folder structure (e.g., Year → Quarter → Document Type).
• Choose a naming convention that includes date (YYYYMMDD), document type, and reference number.
• Set up a backup routine (cloud + external drive) and version‑control for critical tax filings.

7. PREPARE YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE
• Updated CV highlighting:
– 2‑3 years experience in real‑estate or developer environment.
– Specific achievements in VAT filing, audit support, and financial‑statement preparation.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (mention advanced functions, dashboards, Power Query).
• Cover letter (max 1 page) that:
– Shows knowledge of BTI’s business and why you want to join.
– Connects your tax/VAT experience directly to the duties listed.
– Mentions your familiarity with Mushok registers and your systematic filing approach.
• Gather supporting documents: certificates (MBS, MBA or Masters in Accounting), tax‑training certificates, reference letters.
• Ensure all files are named clearly (e.g., “John_Doe_CV_BTI.pdf”).

8. INTERVIEW READINESS
• Behavioural questions – prepare STAR stories for:
– Handling a tight VAT filing deadline.
– Coordinating with an external auditor on year‑end statements.
– Responding to a surprise tax/surveillance audit.
– Implementing a new filing system that reduced retrieval time.
• Technical questions – rehearse calculations:
– VAT payable when input tax exceeds output tax.
– Withholding‑tax computation on contractor payments (percentage, deposit timeline).
– Reconciling Mushok register entries with general‑ledger balances.
• Bring a printed copy of your cheat‑sheet on VAT, withholding‑tax, and Mushok registers – it shows preparedness.

9. LOGISTICS & FINAL CHECKS
• Confirm the application deadline (31 Dec 2025) and submit well before it.
• Verify the e‑mail address or online portal for submission.
• Test your internet connection and ensure PDF files open correctly before uploading.
• Dress in business‑formal attire for the interview and arrive at least 10 minutes early at the BTI office (Celebration Point, Gulshan).

By following this structured preparation plan you will demonstrate the required technical competence, industry awareness, and organisational discipline that BTI expects from a Junior Executive in Tax, VAT & Company Affairs. Good luck!
