Preparation Guide for Applying to the Lecturer Position in Development Studies at North East University Bangladesh (NEUB)



1. Verify Eligibility
- Age: Must be 35 years or younger. The age limit is relaxed if you hold a higher degree (MPhil, PhD, etc.).
- Academic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s degree in Sociology, Economics, or Public Administration.
• Minimum 1st class / CGPA 3.25 in both Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.
• SSC and HSC must be at least 1st division / CGPA 4.00 or equivalent.
- No candidates with a 3rd Division/Class in any qualification will be considered.

2. Strengthen Your Academic Profile
- If you have a higher degree (MPhil, PhD), ensure the certificates are clear and legible.
- Compile a list of research publications, conference papers, or book chapters. Preference will be given to candidates with published work.
- Prepare a brief summary of your research interests that aligns with Development Studies.

3. Assemble Required Documents
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Include personal data, educational background, teaching experience, research output, conferences attended, and professional memberships.
• List two referees with their full names, titles, institutional affiliations, contact numbers, and email addresses.
- Cover Letter
• Address it to “The Registrar, North East University Bangladesh”.
• Mention the specific post title (Lecturer, Development Studies) at the top of the letter.
• Explain why you are a suitable candidate, highlighting teaching philosophy, research interests, and any experience that contributes to university development.
- Copies of Academic Certificates and Mark Sheets
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, and any higher degrees.
• SSC and HSC certificates.
- Two Recent Passport‑size Photographs (white background).

4. Formatting and Presentation
- Use A4 size paper, white background, black ink.

- Keep the CV to 2–3 pages; the cover letter to one page.

3. Copies of certificates & mark sheets (in chronological order)
4. Two passport‑size photographs
5. List of referees (separate sheet)

5. Prepare the Envelope
- Write the name of the post clearly on the front of the envelope: “Lecturer, Development Studies – Application”.
- Include the full mailing address: The Registrar, North East University Bangladesh, Telihaor, Sheikhghat, Sylhet, Bangladesh.
- Use a sturdy envelope to prevent damage during transit.

6. Submission Deadline
- All hard‑copy applications must reach the university on or before 20 December 2025.
- It is advisable to send the envelope at least five business days in advance to allow for postal delays.

7. Follow‑Up
- After mailing, keep the receipt or tracking number.
- If you have not received an acknowledgment within 10 days, consider contacting the university office by phone to confirm receipt of your application.

8. Interview Preparation (if shortlisted)
- Review the Department of Development Studies’ recent research projects, publications, and courses offered.
- Be ready to discuss:
• Your teaching methodology for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• How you would integrate research into teaching.
• Contributions you can make to curriculum development and community outreach.
- Prepare a short presentation (10–15 minutes) on a topic related to development studies, showcasing your ability to engage students.
- Refresh knowledge of current development issues in Bangladesh and South‑Asia, especially those relevant to Sylhet region.

9. Professional Conduct
- Dress formally for any interview (business suit or equivalent).
- Arrive at the university at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Bring extra copies of your CV, certificates, and research papers for the interview panel.
