PRE–JOB PREPARATION GUIDE – CREDIT ANALYST (MSME) – PRIME BANK PLC

OBJECTIVE
To equip you with the knowledge, skills, documents, and interview tactics needed to compete successfully for the Credit Analyst – Credit Risk Management – MSME position at Prime Bank’s Cumilla CRM Hub.

1. RESEARCH THE BANK & THE ROLE

• Study Prime Bank’s latest annual reports, sustainability reports, and press releases (especially those related to MSME financing, digital banking, and Islamic banking).
• Identify the bank’s key strategic priorities (e.g., financial inclusion, SME growth, digital transformation) and think of how a credit analyst adds value to each.
• Review the bank’s internal credit policies, risk appetite statements, and any publicly available credit‑risk manuals.
• Familiarise yourself with the regulatory environment in Bangladesh: Bangladesh Bank circulars on SME loans, Basel III implementation, and the latest guidelines on Islamic banking (Sharia‑compliant financing, Murabaha, Ijarah, etc.).

2. REFRESH CORE KNOWLEDGE

a. Credit Analysis Fundamentals
– Financial statement analysis (income statement, balance sheet, cash‑flow statement).
– Ratio analysis for SMEs (liquidity, leverage, profitability, coverage).
– Cash‑flow based underwriting versus balance‑sheet based underwriting.
– Credit scoring models and probability of default (PD) calculations.

b. MSME Specifics
– Typical business cycles of micro‑, small‑ and medium‑enterprises in Bangladesh.
– Common financing needs (working capital, term loans for equipment, trade finance).
– Sector‑specific risk factors (agriculture, garment, services, IT).

c. Islamic Banking Products
– Understand Murabaha, Diminishing Musharakah, Ijarah, Mudarabah and how they are structured for MSME clients.
– Review the Sharia‑compliant credit appraisal checklist used by Bangladeshi banks.

d. Regulatory Requirements
– Bangladesh Bank’s “SME Credit Policy” and “Islamic Banking Guideline”.
– Know the limits on exposure, collateral valuation norms, and reporting timelines.

3. PRACTICAL SKILLS BUILD‑UP

• Use Excel to build a mini‑credit‑risk model: import sample financial statements, compute key ratios, project cash flows, and calculate a simple risk rating.
• Practice drafting a credit proposal memo: include executive summary, borrower overview, financial analysis, risk assessment, recommended loan structure, and mitigation steps.
• Conduct a mock site‑visit assessment: choose a local SME, walk through its premises (or use virtual tours), note operational strengths/weaknesses, and prepare a brief field‑report.

4. UPDATE YOUR APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Resume
– Highlight at least two years of experience in loan underwriting, CRM, or SME credit.
– Quantify achievements (e.g., “Processed 30+ MSME loan applications per month with a default rate 0.8% below portfolio average”).
– List technical skills: financial modeling, Excel, credit software (e.g., SAP CRM, Temenos, or proprietary bank systems).

Cover Letter
– Mention your familiarity with Prime Bank’s awards and its focus on operational excellence.
– Connect your experience with the specific responsibilities (financial analysis, field visits, compliance).
– Show enthusiasm for both conventional and Islamic product knowledge.

Supporting Documents
– Certified copies of degree certificates (UGC‑approved bachelor’s; MBA/MBM/MBS/M.Com if you have).
– Experience letters or credit‑approval certificates from previous employers.

5. PRE‑INTERVIEW PREPARATION

a. Technical Questions – Prepare concise answers for:
– “Walk us through your credit appraisal process for an MSME borrower.”
– “How do you adjust financial ratios for a seasonal business?”
– “Explain the key differences between a conventional term loan and an Islamic Murabaha facility.”

b. Scenario‑Based Questions – Practice responses to:
– “A borrower’s cash‑flow projection shows a shortfall in year 2; what mitigation would you propose?”
– “During a site visit you discover the inventory is overstated; how do you proceed?”

c. Behavioral Questions – Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Sample prompts:
– “Describe a time you identified a credit risk that others missed.”
– “Give an example of how you ensured compliance with a new regulatory circular.”

d. Questions for the Interviewer – Prepare thoughtful queries such as:
– “What are the bank’s current priorities for expanding MSME financing in the Cumilla region?”
– “How does the risk‑management team integrate credit analytics with digital banking platforms?”

6. LOGISTICS & DEADLINE MANAGEMENT

• Application deadline: 20 December 2025 – submit all documents at least two days before to avoid technical issues.
• Keep a checklist (application form, CV, cover letter, certificates, passport‑size photo).
• After submission, send a brief thank‑you email confirming receipt and expressing continued interest.

7. CONTINUOUS LEARNING (Post‑Application)

– Enrol in a short online course on “SME Credit Risk” (e.g., Coursera, edX) to stay updated.
– Follow Bangladesh Bank’s news feed and relevant financial‑risk webinars.
– Join local professional groups (e.g., Bangladesh Association of Credit Professionals) for networking and knowledge sharing.

By following this structured plan over the next three to four weeks, you will reinforce the technical expertise, regulatory know‑how, and interview readiness that Prime Bank looks for in a Credit Analyst for its MSME Credit Risk Management team. Good luck!
